Will sound work for install if it doesnt on the livecd?
Now that 9.3 has been released to mirrors, I was hoping to use it on my laptop and replace ubuntu. I downloaded the livecd to find that everything worked quite well, however I could not get sound working. I was wondering if the sound would work if I installed SUSE to my harddrive. I'm using a Toshiba a55-s326.

1) What sound card do you have?
2) Has it ever worked on Linux? |
Though I'm not sure of the sound card, every previous version of linux installed or tested does work.

I would assume that sound will not work with the installable version as well. Both (LiveCD/Installable) use essentielly the same driver and kernel. However, the installable version can be updated and may gain function of your soundcard with a later kernelupdate.
It is also more flexible and allows to install custom software and driver. I would say: have a try! |
Well if you have ALSA installed I can't see why it wouldn't work.

I have had trouble with sound cards in some Dells before. I ran alsaconf as root from the terminal and that usually fixed my problems.
