First: which graphic card should I buy in order to have full comptability with Suse Linux 9.1 ?
Option 1: ASUS A9200SE TD Radeon 9200SE 128Mb DDR, TV-out, DVI
Results SUSE LINUX Hardware Database: (put "http" before the ":")

What does "(DH)" mean ? Is it the same card ?
Option 2: MSI Geforce FX5200-T TV-out 128Mb DDR

Same card ?
Second: are these cards good enough for some simpel image editing (Adobe Photoshop). I don't play games.
Thanks in advance !
ps: I'm sorry about the long url's... Because this is my first post, I can't type a link in my post.
I would consider only cards that have or incorporate the NVIDIA or ATI chipsets. You might want to search specifically for cards that are supported by Linux, an example being this Store Site .
Btw, you can enter a URL by copying the URL with Ctrl-C, then click on the button marked "http://" in the header above this dialog box and then enter a description, press Ok, then the URL and press Ok.
Nowadays, any el cheapo card should do. 8 mb are needed for 1600*1200*32...
To me, Radeon sounds best, but thats because i always had Ati lately, and they
always just worked...
This is not personal experience, but in another SuSE-Forum many people reported that the NVIDIA drivers are easier to install and create less trouble with 3D support than ATI.
Also 3D performance seems to be better.
I only use Intel onboard graphics but I am happy with that
I would stay away from ATI cards. They are always behind NVidia when it comes to Linux support.
The 2.6 kernel has been out how long now? And ATI still doesn't support it. You have to do much more than install an RPM to get their drivers to work for 2.6. I have seen a few tutorials on how to do it but I fail each time.
I also have an asus Radeon 9600se (c profile for the rest of my components) and it came with a cd which was useless because it doesnt even have a linux driver (the mboard does) but i can still run and see everything normally. I do have a problem with the performance when i run some flash games or play the games that come with suse but im not sure if thats the vpu or cpu.
I found a linux driver for the 9600se at www.ati.com but it tells u to only install the driver if ur experiencing problems, im not sure what it means but i heard from other forums that the driver is not that great :S. I didnt install it bcuz i didnt get the chance to run any real games and see about the performance.
I hope the linux driver helps u out. good luck
i have the same deal you have, and its because its not loading the correct drivers for the card so you dont have any 3D available. I tried the ati drivers and they dont work with the linux 2.6 kernel...so they did absolutely nothing......
Well the thing with the ATI drivers is that you cannot get them off of the ATI site. Like it was said, they do not work on 9.1 with the new kernel. But what you CAN do is get them off of the suse ftp site, and follow the readme EXACTLY. I struggled with this for a long time, but when I got the drivers off of the suse ftp and followed the Readme word for word, it worked. As far as choosing which type of card to buy, please, oh please take my advice and go with NVIDIA. They are so much easier to deal with, it is just disgusting.

Forget ATI. I had so many troubles with Doom3, xmame, X11, Flightgear, unreal tournament, etc.... ATI SUXXOR. Before, i had a NVIDIA, and it worked fine and it was easy to configure. I'll buy a new one soon.
ey im not gonna buy a whole new card! but next time ill just buy an nvidia im gonna install xp n double boot from now on cuz im tired of incompatibility
