"What is the difference between Compiz and Xgl "

Hello ,

I am trying to install 3-D effects on my SLED10SP2 box. I want to use, compiz or Xgl. How do I do that and what is the difference between them ??

on some systems way back in the day, you had to run xgl to get compiz to work...you shouldn't need to anymore..your best bet is install compiz, compiz settings manager, and fusion-icon... then you just run fusion-icon at startup and it takes care of starting up compiz. There are a ton of articles on google for this, and if I remember correctly, it's actually pretty painless on Suse..

Hi

I don't know the difference between Xgl and compiz.
Personally i used Xgl when i had OpenSUSe 11.2
Now in an ubuntu derivative i use compiz fusion because it's pre-installed
