Webcam drivers in SUSE 11.1

Hi,

I had no problems with my Logitech webcam until SUSE 11.1.RC1. I cant use it any more. There is no driver for it. It happened in SUSE 11.1 RC1 and is still here in the final SUSE 11.1.

you need to output your command

Code:
lsusb
and or full make model details pls

2) normally modern distro use module uvcvideo

so try command
Code:
lsmod | greb usbcore
is module loaded?

3) or maybe you do not have group permissions so more details required

post output of
Code:
groups

the new kernel has limited drivers this happened to me with the new 2.6.27.7 kernel had to blacklist or if you want go into /lib/modules/uname-r kernel/drivers/usb/media/ you should find gspca_main. if not look around till you find it cut and paste some where for safe keep.
go here http://mxhaard.free.fr/ get your package build it if you have to. it is simple make make install but if they have your package use it. now you have all the drivers old and new. reboot all is well that is what I did step for step. the new kernel is limited but the 2.6.24 had it all do not ask my why but this is the fix.http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca50x/Downl...0071224.tar.gz

what webcam works with suse 11,1

I have a similar problem with my old ViewQuest Technologies, Inc. CS330 Webcam driver using gspca_spca501. The cam worked in Suse 10 and 11.0 and has now failed. Loading the libv4l and preloading an updated driver with the command:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype (or kopete)

does not fix the problem which I understand is to caused by the compression algorithms which differ from one camera to another.
Obviously it is time for me to replace this old webcam. Has anyone found an webcam which works with USB1 and Suse 11.1 - preferably inexpensive?

thanks..

I tried to repeat this and then it doesn't work. An error message appears unable to Preload.

[root@localhost ~]# LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
ERROR: ld.so: object 'LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from 'LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.

Today:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

When I typed the above into System Control Panel - Console with root password the Logitech Quickcam worked OK. However I doubt that without root the camera will work in Skype. Is there away to set Mandriva to do this without having to type this each time?
Any Ideas?
Moshe

========================
Before:

No go with the Mandriva 2009.0 regarding the Webcam. I unfortunately don't remember what I did but for one time I actually got a picture in the Preview.

I think in the /etc/modprobe.d I added a line

"options quickcam compatible=6" as I saw in www.linuxquestions.org

I also tried both

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4compat.so Skype

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v42convert.so Skype

I have a Quickcam Chat 8.4.8

In Mandriva 2008.1 Spring edition I had a Pixart PAC2007 connected quite successfully.

Anybody got any ideas. Funny though Ekiga and Cheese the Camera works OK with a very clear sharp picture no green and flashing screen.

I have a feeling that Skype doesn't know where the device is; In the Skype options it has

Camera /dev/device0

you must install v4l1 the new systems run v4l2 and in v4l1 there is a convert.so and linked to v4l1compat. and do as said above.then run
Quote:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
I edited all my icon launcher to run that command.
