Upgrade OpenSuse 10.0 to SuSE Eval 10.0

I love Ubuntu because as long as you have the dependencies anything installs, no "enterprise" version or stuff like that.
However in SuSE, from what I've read, the Eval version and the SuSE Linux 10.0 (formerly known as SuSE Professional) differ in the DVD, the Eval is a single layer available for download, the DVD is a dual layer with more software.

My main question is, since I downloaded the 64 bit OS, how can I add those repositories (like the backports in Ubuntu) that will allow me to:
1) Play MP3
2) Download Java
3) Download Eclipse
4) Download DVD Codes and such

I'd really appreciate some tips since I want to understand all the differences between the distros.

Downloadind the 64-bit Eval seems like too much of a hassle, why aren't there any 64-bit Eval CDs?

Simply add "inst-source-java" from your OpenSuse mirror to your installation sources (either using YaST or the command installation_sources -a <URL>). This will give you java and eclipse. For MP3 and DVD codecs, look for a packman mirror. Mine is ftp://ftp.mb3.tu-chemnitz.de/mirrors...n.de/suse/10.0

YaST will pick packages for the 64bit architecture automatically.

To my knowledge, the difference between OpenSuse and SUSE Eval lies in the combination of packages on the installation medium.

Have a look for mirrors here:
http://www.novell.com/products/susel...t_mirrors.html
http://www.opensuse.org/Mirrors_Released_Version

Here's my complete list of sources:

Code:
[x] SUSE LINUX Version 10.0 (ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distributions/suse/suse/i386/10.0/SUSE-Linux10.0-GM-Extra)
[x] SUSE LINUX Version 10.0 (ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/mirrors/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source/)
[x] SUSE LINUX Version 10.0 (ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/mirrors/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source-java)
[x] Packman (SuSE LINUX 10.0) (ftp://ftp.mb3.tu-chemnitz.de/mirrors/packman.iu-bremen.de/suse/10.0)
[x] supplementary KDE 3.5 update (ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_10.0/yast-source)
[x] supplementary GNOME 2.12 update (ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/supplementary/GNOME/update_for_10.0/yast-source)
[x] guru (SUSE LINUX 10.0) (ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/10.0/)
[x] contributions by Robert Schiele (http://pi3.informatik.uni-mannheim.de/~schiele/suse/10.0/)
[x] scorot rpms (SUSE LINUX 10.0) (ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-scorot/suse100)
[x] Battle For Wesnoth (SUSE LINUX 10.0) (http://gumbeargang.de/rpm/wesnoth/10.0/)
[x] suser-liviudm (SUSE LINUX 10.0) (ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-liviudm/10.0)
This should give a quite comprehensive choice of packages, however I do not recommend the german servers from your location.

(this fixes amarok only not xmms)
2)the is also a rpm for dvd css on this site.
3)get java rpm from this site www.java.com
4)your own your own with Eclipse

From what I've discovered so far, the RPMs downloaded from the web repositories are saved here:
/var/adm/YaST/InstSrcManager
There are various folders, such as: IS_CACHE_0x00000001

What I want to do is learn how to keep this RPM files (even after I reboot), so that I can later enable a network (SMB based repositories).
We want to use SuSE Linux in 2 machines, and I want one machine to be a gateway, in which all the repositories should be saved (like in Ubuntu, where everything is saved at /var/cache/apt/archives/ )

I've google this problem for an hour or so without any luck, I'll appreciate any help

Where can I edit my sources manually?
In Ubuntu sources were at /etc/apt/sources.lst I'm almost sure

Questions about your sources
supplementary KDE 3.5 update
(ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/ftp.sus....0/yast-source)
In Ubuntu when I upgraded to KDE 3.5, everything was fine, except the "KDE KIcker crashed" every time I logged of KDE, making it difficult to leave the computer on with auto shut down (since you had to click on "OK" for that).
Apart from that, Amarok, klipper and KDE programs that use the status bar didn't worked ok in Gnome (instead of docking themselves to the status bar, they were icons on the desktop, like small windows)
I have the impression that in SuSE the upgrades are much more stable, I upgrade a 9.2 to KDE 3.4 and it worked incredibly good.
For me Ubuntu is a very very nice distro but if you want to upgrade KDE or something like that then it's not that good.
Apart from that I do not like the Ubuntu and Kubuntu distros, they should all be one distro. I don't mind to see two distros with different desktops, but I hate the idea of having different forums for Ubuntu and Kubuntu

[x] supplementary GNOME 2.12 update
(ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/ftp.sus....0/yast-source)
What version of Gnome comes with SuSE OSS 10.0?

[x] guru (SUSE LINUX 10.0)
(ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/10.0/)
[x] contributions by Robert Schiele (http://pi3.informatik.uni-mannheim.d...ele/suse/10.0/)
[x] scorot rpms (SUSE LINUX 10.0)
(ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-scorot/suse100)
[x] suser-liviudm (SUSE LINUX 10.0)
(ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-liviudm/10.0)

What are all these for?
[x] Battle For Wesnoth (SUSE LINUX 10.0)

Were can I check screenshots of this game?
WHat are the best OS games for SuSE?

Thanks a lot guys!

I belong to this forum now, which is the best forum (true community support, nothing payed) for SuSE
I really love Ubuntuforums.org and is the first distro that I really had good support

Thanks I'm gonna download them.
I tried enable realplayer in amarok so that I could play MP3 files (as Novell has a convention with Real Player)

However I have to manually seek to the next track in amarok if I want to play files, and the sound quality is really not good.

I hope your package fixes the situation

Just for the records what if Novell wanted to offer SuSE with MP3 support? (Mandriva does)
How much will SuSE have to pay if they want to offer Open SuSE 10.1 with MP3 support, even if they allow people to download it through the internet?

nope I downloaded it and still, amarok can't play MP3s

I've tried with three options already, really this shouldn't be that difficult

I will try rebooting to see if that helps

If this helps I had a similar problem: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=403327

I tried almost everthing but for some reason, when I intalled Totem and Kaffiene with its dependecies (I did a "media" search in YaST), it worked right. I set the engine to Xine, and output to Autodetect.
