Unable to view/recover desktop display

I am currently running SUSE 9.3. Everything was find until I attempted to modify the Firewall and ETC file settings trying to get my remote control to work. Now when I boot I do not get the x in the center of the screen and it goes to "Login" prompt. I tried booting in safe mode and then logged in as root and used sax2 however, all I get is a blank screen. I also went thru the "Repair" that came with the distro but no avail.

Can anyone help me get my desktop back without having to re-install.

Thanks in advance

I found the problem. I had bought a Logitech Wireless Mouse and I plugged it in the PS2 port (It has a PS2/USB adapter). Well SUSE did not complain and it worked ok so I didn;t give it another thought. Well After I started having the problem I explained above I figured I would try the mouse. So I disconnected the mouse from the PS2 port and plugged it in the USB port re-booted. Then SUSE saw the new hardware (Mouse) and configured and now all is well.

Amazing that a mouse can mess up you video display in Linux (SUSE)
