suse10.2 50% slower than suse10.0 running Maven - The java build manager.
Hi,
We are running a number of servers and desktops (a mixture of Suse 10.0 and Suse 10.2) to do automated unit tests and builds. We are using Maven and Java 1.4.2.
I received a number of complaints from Suse 10.2 users about the performance of these builds. The specifications of the hardware was similiar in all cases.
We have been seeing that Suse 10.2 is 50% slower (more in some cases) than the Suse 10.0 installations.
To prove the issue, I took a standard desktop box (1Gb 3.2Mhz) and installed a dual boot Suse 10.0 and Suse 10.2.
I also installed the same Java, Maven and MySQL versions on both. Both machines had an identical copy of the source code.
I then ran the maven build "maven jar-all" on both boxes and as predicted Suse 10.0 took 29 minutes to complete and Suse 10.2 took 61 minutes.
Could anyone suggest what this could be? or where I could even begin diagnosing it.
Regards,
Ian Collins.
