Suse static ip + dns autoupdate
Hi
Most linux distros I have triied have a default setting for dynamically updating domain name servers from your ISP while you have a static IP address as long as the default gateway is set. But for some reason suse 9.3 won't find the dns servers unless the ip is set by DHCP. So, there is no internet on the machine. Only local network. Could anybody tell me how to fix this? |
did you have a statically assign ip, or did the dhcp server have a reservation for you, so that you always got the same ip?
what you otherwise could do, would be to set you eth card to be configured via dhcp, and you edit the dhclient.conf in /etc file, to override ip allocation by the dhcp offer, and to override other settings the dhcp server sends out to you. you should find examples in that file (commented out of course) or man dhclient.conf |
