SUSE Open 10.3. Gmail. PITA. (If you don't have Gmail, you will not understand)

Guys I have Gmail.

When you open up gmail it's great, but when you sign off it's a "PITA"!

When I boot up my computer I normally go and check "Gmail", once you have read your mail and want to "quit", a box will come up saying you are about to close 2 windows. You have to say yes if you want to use the computer.

This drops you back to your starting window that pops up another window to inter your password again, starting over, therefore the (PITA)!

Is there a better way, do you understand what I'm talking about?

0) use the 1980ies pure HTML interface with Javascript turned off for the site,
1) check Gmail through IMAP?

I have not the slightest idea of what you are talking about. Sir, you will have to put that into earth English (LOL). I really appreciate the answer but I don't know how to use it.

Gmail allows you to choose between interfaces. The what they call "basic HTML" interface may look ancient but it doesn't require Javascript and hence you don't need it to check your e-mail. Stopping Javascript means you don't get those pop-ups. If you use Firefox (NoScript plugin) or Opera (built-in) you can turn off features like Javascript on a per-site basis. The choice is between functionality or speed (and between annoyances or other annoyances) ;-p.

All sane e-mail clients understand the "standard" e-mail protocol called "POP3". Some e-mail clients can connect to mailservers using another protocol called "IMAP". Gmail allows you to use IMAP and provides instructions how to set up your e-mail client to use it.

Not sure if we can do that.....computer people typically use a very different form of English than typically found on Earth (just look at a BASH manual).....;)

Yeah, I was going to say - you will have to learn a different language.
