SuSE on Dell D620 laptop

Is there anybody running SuSE 10.x on a Dell D620 laptop? I am running 10.1 on my desktop but want to install it on my laptop as well. I have tried 10.1 on my previous laptop but eventually abandoned it as I could not get the wireless network working. Is is easier on the D620 or am I in for another torture session? (Why is wireless networking so pathetically supported in Linux? I mean it's not really new technology anymore?).

Should I wait for 10.2 final? Is it worthwile? Is the package management resolved in 10.2 (beta2)?

I really like SuSE on my desktop, so not considering an alternative distro.

Yup, everything pretty much just works... as for the wireless, make sure you get the ipw firmware package installed for your card (providing that you have an Intel wireless card) I'm running SLED10 on it (which is basically 10.1 with some polishing). 10.2 will only better, and seeing that it is slated for release on Dec. 7th, it might be easier to wait and do a fresh install than trying to upgrade.

Sorry to bump an old message...I just put SuSE 10.2 on my D620 (2 Days ago) and have had no issues as of yet. One thing worth noting is that I'm having a hard time getting the WLAN card installed. It's the Dell 1390 Wireless card and support for that seems limited at best. Good luck

Many times the 1390 WLAN adapter uses a Broadcom chipset. You can rip the .inf and .sys files for Windoze XP from the driver cd and use NDIS Wrapper for the Windoze drivers. It works quite well, I have done this with several WLAN adapters for which I had difficulty finding Linux drivers.

Hi All,

I've been runnning 10.1 and 10.2 OpenSuse on a Dell D620 for 2 years.
I'm just about to install opensuse 10.3 on it. and expect no problems
One thing that makes life easier is that I have the Intel wifi card (instead of broadcom) and also the nvidia graphics chip, instead of intel graphics adapter.
