suse is kind of a rat
 

I was using fedora core 3 but I didn't like the corporate aspect of it so I switched to suse 9.2
which I like a lot and it has a more candy gui which is cool for my noobness. I will say, however, that suse is a bit of a rat operating system. Grip won't rip anything but ogg's unless you study for a day or two how to get it to work with mp3's and that Vanity webcam thing won't recognize my very common web cam and Yast takes some getting used to and you can't install Mplayer or Xine with apt because apparently they don't make suse versions of those programs. I didn't have any of these problems with Fedora (mp3 support was easy to get through apt) but I will never go back to Fedora because I suspect that Red Hat has a relationship with the Department of Homland Security to infiiltrate all Red Hat computers and report back any potentially anti-war, anti-bush or anti nazi communications. I think Red Hat is working closely with the CIA to create a database of people who use linux so when the shit hits the fan and the U.S. becomes a third world right wing dictatorship they will be able to round me up and export me to a foreign country to be tortured. In the meantime I think suse is the best option and I enjoy trying to figure out how to "unbreak it" kind of like trying to figure out how to get the carb on a slant six to not stall everytime you pull up to a red light.

Barking mad and incorrect, I have Mplayer installed on SuSE 9.1 and works great (try adding packmans suse rpm source in yast and getting it there).

As mentioned before, install Lame it works a treat, but ogg requires less disk space.

As for the homeland security stuff, barking mad!

If homeland software is in Linux, then it sure isn't in the kernel. I do not believe Linus would ever agree to something like this... So where is it?!

I'm pretty sure I have lame installed:

But everytime I try to rip a cd it says something like "Cannot do. Check the path of your executable"
I will try to compile Xine and Mplayer but my success with tarballs is limited.

Homeland software is only present in Red Hat as far as I know. What they do over at Red Hat is they get the Kernel from Linus and then, without his knowledge, they hack into it and install the tracking software before adding it to their distribution. They are able to get all kinds of tax cuts
and business perks through their cooperation with the CIA and the Dept. of Homeland Security.

Hey, it's open source, right? Get the source code for the kernel and post the snooping bit here.

Or download a vanilla kernel and compile your own.

And don't forget a tin foil hat.

I hardly think that this country is going to dictatorship, and it is unlikely that the government is spying on us via our own OSes. They are coming in from our internet connections, they have been reading our email and Ims for years. Why do you think it took so long before 128bit encryotion becames standard. They had to know that they could break it, if they did'nt all ready have a backdoor programmed in. THe only Question is who are the they? And I highly doubt they are only democrats or rebublicans, or neo-cons. I think they are those who want NWO, one world government. Either way feel safe using a computer only connected to the power outlet.

Well I agree that these people you speak of are after a NWO but I think you can pin it on the neocons. Of course there are others...... Yesterday I found a tiny wireless microphone in the exhaust vent of my clothes dryer. The acoustics are such that you could here a conversation I was having in my bedroom. These things are easily installed when you are away from your home. Even a short trip to the corner store. Thousands of tiny wireless video cameras the size of pinheads are installed in the homes of unsuspecting Americans everyday and Linux users are a magnet for this type of activity. The primary motivation behind these intrusions is race. The neocons are afraid of Arabs who they consider to be non-humans and they find their religion to be particularly threatening. This is the main reason behind the war in Iraq. Ultimately they would like to see the Dome of the Rock torn down and replaced with a synagogue believing that this somehow will bring about the second coming of Christ. Talk about mental illness. The vast majority of people who support the war effort have been brainwashed and struck with so much fear that when the reasons why we went to war don't add up new ones are created and no questions are asked.

Maybe you would be safe if you have a solar or wind powered system with no other connections. But I doubt it. All electronics have some RF output.

It's best to distroy all electronics in your house, shave your head, move out into the desert and change your name.
