suse 9.3 eating all my base memory

Hi all,

I have installed suselinux 9.3 in 512mb 40gb intel 845gvsrl box.The system is too slow while operating. In top command
shows only 50mb freespace and eating 450mb memory during operation.I have given 1GB swap space. Is there anyway to find which process eating all the memory.

But the system not at all using the swap space all the 1GB memory is free.

How to make this to normal settings?

Thanks in advance.

I have 1GB in my computer. After booting Suse uses ~512MB of the memory.
You should consider about using a different distribution like Gentoo.
I have also installed Gentoo on my computer. After booting (into graphics desktop KDE), the OS uses ~160MB of the memory.

'top' should really come with a warning label.

this is normal behavior for any distribution.

use 'free -m' for a better indication of how much is actually in use.
