SuSE 9.2 Won't Read My Hard Disk

I have an AMD Athlon 2400+
512mb RAM
80gb Hard drive

I am trying to install SuSE Linux 9.2 Professional. I have been able to install SuSE Linux 9.1 Personal, but 9.2 Pro will not detect my hard disk. I am able to start the install normally and once it gets to YAST, I get the error below. When I checked the Kernel messages I also saw

Buffer I/O Error, dev hda and something about sectors and blocks.
I really want to get his OS up and running.

I even reformatted my comp.
CURRENT SETTINGS:
10gb - Windows XP Pro
65gb - Unallocated

Windows XP Pro loads up fine

when the kernel is streaming before YAST2 begins
i see:

hda: samsung sv8004h, ATA DISK Drive

then the error I get when YAST begins is

ERROR: No hard disks were found for the installation. Please check your hardware!

then if I will to the partitioning tab which displays "no disk found"

it says

"No disks found, please us the Update CD for installation."

please help me.. i really need it

Have you contacted Suse "support". I use quotes, because the only thing they supposedly support is installation. If your problem does not qualify, I don't know what does.

When I had similar problems with 9.1 (I screwed up switching from 64 to 32 bit versions), I was able to fix things from the Windows side using Norton Systems Works. They include some utilities that saved the day for me.
