Suse 9.2 Sharing Printers over local network via CUPS
I am trying to setup printer sharing on as small local network via CUPS and SUSE 9.2. I have the printer working locally on one machine(direct via USB) but I cannot detect from other machines on the the Network via CUPS
I have tried playing around with the settings in YAST under Advanced (Browsing, and permissions ( /root), (/class) etc.) to no avail. Is anyone else having problems sharing printers locally with Suse 9.2 or could you pint me to a how to or something? Thanks |
Explore linuxprinter.org, which discusses printer installation particularly unsing CUPS in excruciating detail. You need to
, IMYHO, set up the networking parameters in CUPS, and I don't think YAST includes that in its otherwise exellent reperatoir. ;) |
port 631 on the firewall?
|
Port 631 is the standard port used by hte CUPS server and clients. If you have firewall on, you have to make sure it is configured to not block that port. In my setup, my gateway includes a firewall so I leave the firewall turned off on my LAN hosts. Let us know how it turns out!:)

Yast has a nice firewall editor. It is very easy.
Al, do you know if that is tcp or udp? |
