Question Suse 9.2 Pro Online Updates

I have used Suse 9.2 Pro for some time now and I've continue to have a problem of updating the software I have to the latest versions. From my understanding the YOU will only update software to the latest versions available for Suse 9.2 Pro. I tried to update Firefox 1.0 Preview, and Gaim 0.8.2 numerous times with YOU but had no success. Each time I'd end up with the same version because there was no new version of these programs available for Suse 9.2 Pro.

So after I've tried doing YOU without success a whole bunch of times, I decided to add new FTP servers to the YOU list on my computer so that it can broaden its search. I haven't been able to get this working correctly either. I can use the servers that have preset addresses in Suse but when I add new servers from elsewhere, sometimes when I try to do an update Suse will tell me it cannot go to the directory that I tell it to.

I'm getting these server addresses from the sticky in this forum and its seems to work for everyone else so I don't know what going on with my computer. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. If anyone has been able to update to the latest software via YOU, I'd really like to hear from you and find out what the secret is. I'd very much to be using the latest versions of all my software and not the outdated stuff. Thanks in advance for any help I receive.

I would contact Suse (If you bought it), but meanwhile you can look for the updates manually on their server (or any of its mirrors) if you haven't done so already.

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse

(look for you architecture, then look for updates and 9.2)
also you can find some other stuff there (in supplementary) - it is not a part of the official update, so I wouldn't be to brave installing everything I see there, plus many things require newer libraries, i.e. KDE 3.3.2 base libraries.

If you like the ease of YOU, try adding a new installation source ("Change Source of Installation") in you YAST sofware menu. This one is very popular:

packman.iu-bremen.de

add it as an http source and put 'suse/9.2' for "Directory on Server". Authentication is anonymous.

I hope this helps,
