SuSE 9.2 - KDE - Pan newsreader

I've used SuSE linux for about 8 years & I've usually managed to sort out any problems, however this one has me *really* foxed. I've just installed SuSE 9.2 on a spare drive to test it before upgrading my machines. I use KDE & prefer to use PAN rather than Knode. In all SuSE versions (until now) while using KDE, PAN has used the preferences that I set for it, such as highlighting watched threads, font colours, etc.
In SuSE 9.2 KDE it won't do this. If I switch to Gnome, the set preferences work ok. But no matter *what* I try, I cannot get them to work in KDE. Any ideas how to get Pan to use "Preferences" while running in KDE? It *has* worked ok in other SuSE versions...
I've installed the version that came with SuSE 9.2 Pro, & I've tried other versions that I've downloaded, but they're the same.

I'm also using Gaim in KDE, & that is running just fine.

SuSE 9.2 Professional, KDE 3.3.1

Any help appreciated. TIA.
