Hello there. I have just recently tried to install SuSe 9.2 proffesional on to my uber new pc, however I get the following problem:
The installation program loads the kernel fine, and appears to accept all the devices, however when the console states "starting yast...", the system speaker beeps, and then the machine crashes on a plain blank screen. I have left it on the screen for approximatly 2 hours, so I'm pretty sure it isn't just slow loading. I've tried installation through manual mode too, and I just get the same problem when it tries to load yast.
Is there any solution to this, or maybe a way of installing without the use of yast?
My system is an amd 64 3400+, and I have heard of issues with linux and 64 bit technology, maybe this could be the problem?
Thats interesting. Other than the processor, our systems are almost completly different. I have a gigabyte GA-k8NF-9TA , and a 6645 graphics card. That pretty much narrows it down to a processor problem doesn't it? Maybe if we try installing it it 32 bit mode, will work? although it will be a last resort.
I successfully installed the 32 bit version. However i'm not satisfied with that since i have a 64 bit system, i want a 64 bit os...
mandriva 64 installed without a hassle, however i have some driver problems there
I'm aware of another case which 64 bit version fails
A friend of mine has exact same system to mine with only difference his hard disk is parallel not sata, and his graphics card is nvidia 6600 GT.
Um, maybe if we try to contact novell, there might be an update to solve this. Otherwise, I'm totally baffled, and might have to end up going with another distributer, as I agree, whats the point in getting a 64 bit processor if you can only run it at 32? Watch this space ... I'll post again when I hear from novell
