Suse 8.2 upgrade? KDE, GNOME?

Hello all, I'm in a bit of a jam. I have been using SuSe Linux for over a year now and I must say that I'm impressed. I'm still a "newbie" though, only because I don't fool around with it as much as I want to. Anyways, I'm becoming quite frustrated and hoping that someone could help me out.

My first question: I'm still using SuSe 8.2 Personal but would like to upgrade to the latest version, if that is possible. I read a few posts from different forums and they seemed to say that it's best to buy CD's or download it. Does that mean that there isn't a way to update via Yast? I looked into Yast but didn't see anything, was cautions though as I didn't want to upset anything.

Second question: I would like to update GNOME and KDE to the latest versions but having trouble with that. I did find an informative site (SuSe KDE update ) but when I went to the FTP site I didn't see an 8.2 folder under KDE. Why is this? Is 8.2 simply outdated? I did the same for GNOME since I seen it there but didn't see a "Yast source" folder. Does that mean that I can't upgrade to GNOME? Am I stuck with the one I have?

So these are my dilemmas, I would appreciate any help.

Thanks!
Jack

There is, but I wouldn't recommend using it. Too many configurations have changed since 8.2, so I clearly recommend a clean install. Backup your data and replace 8.2 by the newer version.

Yes, to my knowledge 8.2 is no longer maintained.

Thanks for your reply. I'm going to buy the CD's and do a fresh install.

Thanks again.
