SuSE 10 only logs in root after update

Ive been through several users already.
Suse 10 using grub loader.
The GUI login now has 3 users with red icons.
After entering the correct PW it begins the login and kicks back to the login window. Only root seems to be ok. (probably becuase I leave root well enough alone)

I had checked using init 3
and i have the errors.

Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID, removing from list!

I have verified that these directories are valid fonts dir.

I'm just getting tired of making a new user every time this happens.
Any ideas?
Should i start looking for a new flavor?

Does a new user work initially?

I an older thread, a similar problem was caused by the installation of Yahoo messenger, which messed up the users login. It could be solved by deleting some hidden files in the users directory (.DCOPserver, maybe .Xauthority).

The above error message is normal and does not cause the problem.

Do you get any hints from /var/log/kdm.log and ~/.xsession-errors ?

re

I think you hit the nail on the head.
I did in fact install yahoo messenger too. I tested a new account with yahoo just installed and it failed to log in.
New users without yahoo work ok now.

Are there any other hidden files i need to worry about?

I am not sure. Have a look at the older threads:
