Need some input. I'm going to post a SuSE 10 ISO torrent however 7.9GB is a bit large. I need to know if others will help to seed it once the download completes. If so, I will post the 7.9GB ISO tomorrow (I can't do it tonight unfortunately) and leave upstream bandwidth set to unlimited for the duration of the weekend. I will provide at least two or three download slots initially and increase as folks join in seeding. Keep in mind I will be hosting it on my own personal workstation and I am still in the midst of configuring everything, and tweaking the kernel, so I will be restarting X several times and probably rebooting 3-4 times over the weekend. Downtime should be minimized though

Posting a 7.9GB will result in extremely long download times if others will not help to seed the torrent. Therefore I searched for a WinISO-like solution so I can remaster the DVD - one with just 32-bit packages, and one with just 64-bit packages. In searching I came across the following thread:

Does this look like the proper method to modify an existing ISO image? I don't want to end up distributing a broken torrent as I do not have a 64-bit system to test the 64-bit image on. Better yet, is there a WinISO-type application available for Linux yet (preferably Qt/KDE )?

I hope to post the torrent around 9:00pm tomorrow.

Why do you want to seed your own Suse 10 torrent when people can get Suse 10 from Novell or Opensuse mirrors and bittorent? I know its the full Suse version but its not so difficult to change the Eval or OpenSuse versions to the full one. Anyway I am just curoius about the logic, so enlighten me.

If you manage to split that dvd I'm interested. I'll upload 30 KB/s for 4 days if the tracker is good. I really only need the 32 bit.

just wondering if any of these torrents vertions of suse 10 are any different from the one your planning to upload ? if so you might just want to seed one of them .if it is different i'll still seed!

Those torrents are different. The only Suse 10 on pirate bay is also different.
I share my linux disks with a friend who has no highspeed internet. This format sounds perfect.
How does a torrent get started ? I'm guessing ideally you try to hook up with people who have good upload capability ? My connection is very lopsided.
45 KB/s seems the max for uploading torrents. To be able to use the connection for anything else I have to throttle back to 35 KB/s.

Do you see any that match? I don't. Could be the result of using another program to rip the CD (I used k3b) or it could be due to ripping to a different block size - or it could be that the one they have posted is not an unmolested DVD.

Post the whole thing, I have a couple DVD-DL discs left that I could use to burn it. I'll seed at 20KB/s for a week if you want. I download a lot of unlic. anime through torrents so I can't commit anymore than that

Sorry about the delay, I worked until 4:30 this morning to get products ready for a photo shoot today (no, not that kind of photo shoot, get your mind out of the gutter ), and worked 12 hours today on the photo shoot (got to work with an SLR digital camera for the first time today - we decided to risk not using an SLR film camera as a backup and fortunately everything came out awesome!) and just finished up. I am generating the torrent now and will be staying until it's ready to post the URL.

The machine is going to be dedicated to this torrent for about a week (my Linux box still isn't fully configured - hitting problems with Samba. In 9.1 through 9.3 Samba Just Works(tm) but in 10.0 it (samba/KDE integration) seems broken). I'm using an alternate machine - a dual Xeon. until Monday morning upstream bandwidth will be set to 200kbps, with three upload slots. As soon as others are seeding I will increase the number of upload slots.

Also, we are upgrading to a 7.1 megabit/14ms to backbone(!!!) connection in a couple of weeks, so I will be posting the torrent again on a much fatter pipe, with an unlimited upload speed outside of business hours, with 8 upload slots each. If someone can tell me whether or not the referenced method for editing the ISO (above) is kosher I will at that time post the modified ISO images (32-bit and 64-bit only) as well.

chado, you wouldn't happen to have Ranma and Gatchaman on there would you? I'd really love to see the entire Gatchaman series (Subbed, not dubbed) since I've only caught bits and pieces of the original, plus Rhino has only released about 12 episodes. I cannot find ANYWHERE to buy Gatchaman on DVD, and I do not own a laser disc player.

I can't wait any longer for feedback (I'm exhausted) so I'll just check back tomorrow to see how the torrent is going.

When it's finished (assuming the torrent works) the MD5 sum should match what I posted above.

ok i have been running bittorrent 4.1.4 trackless (4.1.6 got a memory leak) for about a half hour and no download yet i'll leave it go for 24 hours and report the results but so far "he's dead jim!"

Okay I think the problem may be that I set the tracker before I finished configuring the IP binding, so it may have bound to the internal IP. I deleted the original torrent and tracker and am recreating the tracker. It can be accessed at the same URL as above ( http://kim2xeon.biyn.com:6969/ ) - sorry about the problems this is the first time I've created one using Azureus' internal tracker. The torrent should appear once the torrent hash has been created. It takes a little while since the ISO is 7.95GB.

Looks like it's live. Could someone please test and post, even if you do not intend to download the whole thing? It would help us out because I can verify whether or not the torrent is actually working properly. If not, I may need to reconfigure the firewall again to make sure I have the IPs bound correctly.

Looks like there was a bug in the build of Azureus specifically concerning 1:1 NAT so I patched it and now someone seems to be successfully downloading. Looks like they're on dialup though; 2.4kbps
