Suse 10 installation hangs with "searching for info file"

Attempting an internet install of Suse 10 and not getting very far.

Code:
Starting hardware detection...
Activating usb devices... done
Activating ieee1394 devices... done
Activating pcmcia devices... done
Searching for info file...
In the F3 terminal window, the last lines before it hangs are:

Code:
insmod /modules/libata/ko
insmod /modules/sata_via.ko
Ok, that seems to have worked. :-)
insmod /modules/via82cxxx.ko
So it looks like there is a problem with this module, which is something to do with the VIA chipset and hard drive. This is a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo laptop, not previously used with Suse.

In the F4 terminal the last kernel messages are:

Code:
[<c01f9e38>] pci_register_driver+0x58/0x80
[<c0134171>] sys_init_module+0xa1/0x180
[<c0102d79>] syscall_call+0x7/0xb
Code: 89 50 04 c7 41 04 00 02 20 00 8b [etc]
Tried disabling ACPI and APIC, no difference.

All ideas really really appreciated!

Following advice at http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/ I got past this problem by installing with ACPI disabled and the following parameters added:

Code:
vga=791 NOPCMCIA=yes
Hit another hitch straight away, but maybe that will be for another thread, eh...

So far, not too impressed with Suse 10.

Be aware that this solution was specific to my machine. The www.linux-on-laptops.com site covers plenty of models though.

I ran into the same problem and cured it when I flashed my BIOS. Maybe try updating yours?
