I downloaded the 5 CD Set of Suse 10. I ran the installation, and everything seemed to be working OK, until I misread a prompt and messed up the system (the system would not recognize the hard drives at all), so I decided to reinstall from scratch.

Now when I try and install I keep getting MD5 Sum invalid errors. When I first installed, I did a media check on all of these CDs, and everything went through fine. Now, the media check fails on all CDs. I've also tried my Fedora Core CDs, and they now also fail the MD5Sum Check. I have within the past week installed both of these copies using the same CDs.

I've tried cleaning the CD-Rom Drive, and have also tried a new CD-Rom drive. I also killed all of the partitions on the HD via FDisk, put a new partition on the drive, and then formatted it with dos just to verify the drive. This all went fine, but when I try and install SuSE, I get unable to dearchive the file errors and the details say the the MD5Sum check failed.

I'm at a loss, I don't know what else to try. I guess that I could try and reburn the CD's, but I'm not convinced that this is the problem as they CDs look clean and I installed off of them succesfully Thursday last week.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

UPDATE: After reburning the CD's and still having them fail the MD5SUM check, I tried them on another computer, and they ran fine. I'm installing on the other computer, but I'm still baffled as to why this one computer, which had already read and installed the CDs with no errors, gives errors now. I don't consider myself a Linux noob, but this one has me stumped.

I'm researching this problem and stumbled upon this thread.

In my not quite formed understanding, I believe that the md5 file was formatted with dos and won't work in UNIX like environments.

The fix is floating around end-of-line characters at the end of each line.

Using 'dos2unix' fixes this; except for the last line which I can fix by editing. I backspace the last space in the line then hit return and save the file. Now md5sum-c *md5 works perfect
