Hi,
I've updated from SUSE 10.1 RC3 to GM. (I have been using Xgl on KDE with a Gateway 450SX4 ATI Radeon M LY (7500) and the opensource Radeon driver--no issues.)
Now, after update to 10.1 GM, I as watch the bootstrap process, I reach runlevel 5 but the KDE gui doesn't start (shows "Master Resource Control: runlevel 5 has been reached).
If I log into character mode and manually 'startx' I get into KDE
(and note on logoff there aren't the normal shutdown/restart gui options).
Have gone into root to run sax2 and SuSEconfig several times to no avail.
Same symptom on reboot.
If someone can help get me 'jump started' so that KDE starts, I can deal with the Xgl setup, if need be.
It's a bit dated, but if you work your way through it, examining each file, you may find the source of the problem. The recent upgrade may have changed something that you can repair manually.
Ok, thanks for the info.
FWIW, I have noticed this in /var/log/messages:

Well, I tried the easiest thing first.
I reinstalled (update) 10.1 GM and the problem is now gone.
Boots to KDE fine.
Don't know what the problem was but I'll 'let sleeping dogs lie'
