SuSe 10.1 Installation Problem: Please Help

I’m a Linux newbie trying to perform an installation. No matter how I try partitioning the drive, Yast keeps reporting an "error formatting the partition." I’ve tried accepting the default partition scheme, but get either error number 3030 or 1021. My configuration is:

CPU: 3800+ Athlon AM2
Mainboard: ASUS M2NPV-VM
Hard disk: 300GB SATA Seagate

Any help would REALLY be appreciated.

What FS are you trying to install on? ext2 / ext3 / reiser?
Have you tested / checked your installation cd/dvd?

What is currently on the drive?

Thank you for your reply! I’m using a CD which has been successfully tested and have the same problem trying to use both ext3 and reiser. Before running Yast, I’ve tried formatting the drive using both FAT32 and NTFS (the only options supported by my formatting tool) using a single partition.

WORKAROUND: Although I still don’t know what caused the problem, I found a workaround. SystemRescueCd let me partition and properly format the drive using reiser. I then ran SuSe’s installer and ensured that it didn’t partition/format any parts of the drive itself.
