I'm sure I'm not alone in getting the 'Permission Denied' message when trying to open a data DVD from Konqueror.
This even occurs when clicking on the icon while logged in as root.

I have found that mounting the DVD from a 'su' prompt cures the problem for that session.

One curiousity is that a CD in the DVD drive WILL open without the above hassle.

I have read a number of threads on this subject and have tried all the suggested modifications to /etc/fstab, removing the /dev/hdc (DVD RW drive) and /dev/hdd (CDROM) lines and letting Yast repair the file and have had no luck.

Here are the DVD & CD lines of /etc/fstab in case there is anything awry:-

/dev/hdc /media/dvdrecorder subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0

/dev/hdd /media/cdrom subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0

I seem to remember that there was a recent kernel upgrade a few days ago and this problem seems to have arisen since then. I have also rad that this appears to be a bit of a problem in Novell/Suse 10.1 . I am even considering a reinstall of a previous version as while I like keeping my system up to date, I don't like spending too much time at the so called 'bleeding edge'.
Could someone tell me how far back to go to get a workable reliable system?

Did you burn the dvd in root mode?

2) I know you have looked at your /etc/fstab but simple fstab is the best and to bore you here is mine

a) make a directory called /mnt/dvd
b) the entry line is this

/dev/hda /mnt/dvd iso9660 noauto,users 0 0

its simple....it assumes the burnt to the standard iso9660 format
users mean....users can read it...burn with it
noauto means I do not let Mandriva HAL daemon to try to automount any disc
and the 0 0 means no file system check by your respective fs format eg ext2 or xfs etc.....(I also disabled hal from /etc/hal

I have always used this entry style as it suits me but I know you may be tied of suggestions but if I can not see them in this thread so be it.

1)I used the Suse 10.1 installation DVD (burned from an .iso and others burned under Windows. I didn't burn any as root.
Strangely enough Video DVDs opened with no problem.

2)/etc/fstab lines changed to:-

/dev/hdc /media/dvdrecorder iso9660 noauto,users 0 0

/dev/hdd /media/cdrom iso9660 noauto,users 0 0

Rebooted machine to find that I was able to read the DVD contents in Konqueror with no problems.

I guess I will find something else that will need tweaking later but the immediate problem is solved.
