Sup Firefox!! Wanna Fight!?

ok guys. i got this new laptop thinking the more is better, the better is better. well, i don't have wifi cause there is no support for 64bit processors, and video/graphics/monitor problems cause i have an nvidia 64 and 15.4" widescreen monitor. the monitor and graphics card problems are mostly taken care of, but i have a feeling they are causing my following problem. i'm trying to run firefox, and i get this error:
politisj@linux:~/Documents/firefox-installer> ./firefox
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: XDM authorization key matches an existing client!

(firefox-bin:5756): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
politisj@linux:~/Documents/firefox-installer>

what i think is funny is that i installed thunder-bird also, but it has no problem starting up. so what's up with this!? any ideas? thnx guys

jason

As user;

Code:
# xhost +
su -

password

Code:
# export DISPLAY=:0.0
Now try it.

Edit: Any particular reason that you did not install Firefox from YaST off of the SuSE CD?

ok, it works. cool. could u explain what i just did? the hold xhost + gave me a denied, but that the host was open to all clients, or all clients have access to the host, something like that. what was this whole thing that i did?

The xhost + gives unlimited access to the x servers access list. The combination of the two commands basically tells X-windows where to write to and tells it that it has permission. If you reboot you'll have to do this again to run firefox. My suggestion is to uninstall it and reinstall it via rpm as mentioned before.

The SuSE CD probably has FireFox .8 and not the 1.0 pre-release. Pre-release tarball installed fine for me where I did have some install confusion with the .9 I had been using.
