Start up problem after message "Precaution disk will run out of memory"

Because I didn't know what to do with this message during a normal start up as ROOT
I got the problem that I can't boot anymore in my KDE desktop.

Root = 1 GB and has 252 KB left !

Within Windows I have tried to enlarge the size of the Root partition with
"Acronis Disk Director Suite"
and even tried to copy the root partition into a larger partition (to start from there).
However these two options gave me even more problems !

Some info:
I run Suse 10.1 on the same hard disk as Windows XP-home
and have made separate partitions for;
swap 660 MB
/ 1 GB
/usr 4 GB
/var 1 GB
/opt 4 GB
/home 19 GB

I made these set-up according the instructions as proposed within the Suse beginners guide.
What I don't know is how to organize these partition.
What can be placed in these different partitions and
why isn't that controlled by Yast when installing a program etc.?

Oke my first problem is to get back as Root again in KDE desktop environment

If anybody can give me some good advice that would be nice.

The values that you give for the different partition sizes is confusing. SuSE 10.1 is going to require a minimum of 6 GB for the top of the file system at /. I always use 12 GB for any Linux installation.

I always avoid putting Linux on the same disk as Windows. The disk management software for the two operating systems can cause some problems when they are both used on the same disk. In particular, if you make the disk dynamic under Windows then you might have some problems under Linux. If you keep the disk in basic mode under Windows then you should be okay.

Other than that I can't really believe that you installed SuSE Linux on the disk with the partition sizes that you specified.
