Sound not working, works in Windows XP

I have installed OpenSuSE 10.2 on my system (dual boot with Win XP):
Pentium D 3.0 GHz with original Intel 945G motherboard, onboard sound, 160 GB SATA harddisk, 1 GB DDR2 RAM.

Sound works in Windows XP, but not in Linux. I also have Ubuntu 7.04, Fedora 7 installed on the same system, but sound does not work on Linux at all.

Hope to find an expert soon to kindly guide me...!!!

Regards & Thanks in advance...

Devang.

Go into Control Center - Yast - Hardware - Sound to see if your sound card is detected. Click on Options to see if you can activate it.

What is the output of the command "lspci"? (This will output useful hardware information that may be invaluable to solving your problem)

Open kmix, check to make sure your PCM isn't all the way down

Sometimes the volume - for some reason - is set to 0 (zero).
