Sound is not 100% functional

I'm having trouble playing cds, and mp3s. I've followed through the "Hacking OpenSuSE" guide. I do have the wire connecting the CD-Rom and Sound Card, and I can play sound in the game Super Tux (+ Alsa test worked, but its a .wav) so I'm pretty sure that eliminates hardware problems. Any help?

What software are you using for mp3s and CDs?

I would guess for CDs, you need to get different software like xmms or change a few options, like playback engine, in amarok to allow direct cd access.

As for mp3, if you followed the Hacking OpenSuSE guide fully, the mp3 playing really should work.
