After installing SuSE 10, I have been very happy for the most part. I finally got all my mp3 and video support working(expect for one mpeg of unknown type and origin which can't play in anything, the Gauntlet 7 trailer which could be wholly its own issue). I found KVirc, got firefox and thunderbird going, I have a fully working installation for the first time in about 20 tries to install various linux flavors.

Anywho, I am only about 4 things shy of being able to make this my full on working desktop:

Sound Card: I have a Turtle Beach SantaCruz which will not in ANY linux flavor I have tried show up as anything but a Crystal Fusion, and it will not play at all, so I am thus far relegated to using my onboard sound.

Mouse: I have a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0 with a Migcrosoft Digital Media Pro keyboard... I would love to be able to use all th ebuttons on both. I know in 9.3 the mouse showed as an MS mouse, and I had access to the back and forward buttons, I cannot get it to recognize as such here, it stays as a n IMeX PS/2 Generic Explorer Mouse. Can anyone tell me how to fix that? And hopefullly how to do the same with the Keyboard.

Samba: I have used linux in numerous flavors during school and at work, but never installed one successfully and gotten enough functionality for my effort to keep it. Thus far, I am doing so here, as such, I would love to be able to browse to windows computers and share files from this, to them. As such, I know I need Samba, but here in suse 10, do I need to set up a Samba Server or is there a flatout browsing/sharing functionality I can use?

Finally Wireless, I have a Belkin wireless card which is recognized by Yast as a Belkin WIreless, but I can't seem to add passwords and configuration managers... I know when I tried suse 9.3 there was a wireless manager which did this, which I am unable to find in SuSE 10. I would appreciate anyone's advice on that too.

Very many appreciations for anyone who can help me get these 4 little issues settled. After a few years of trying I would love to have a fully and completely functional linux box so I can use it as a main tower instead of a toy. Thanks again in a advnace.

In Yast open "installation Source" and add sources:

Disable your cd/dvd source and launch "Software Management"
Search=>xine=>select xine and Option "update everything from this list"
Search=>amarok=>select amarok and Option "update everything from this list"
Search=>xmms=>select xmms and Option "update everything from this list"

Download and install libdvdcss to play encrypted DVDs http://download.videolan.org/pub/lib...2.9-1.i386.rpm

Logout. Login.
Play the kitchen sink

Thank you for the advice, but I already have xmms, amarok, mplayer, xine, and the DVD codec.

I can play everything I need to, playback isn't an issue.

Currently I just some advice about Samba, my MS Keyboard and Mouse, my Turtle Beach sound card, and how to configure the wireless card as that tool has been changed or removed or something from suse 9.3 to 10.

EDIT: I lied... I have wireless now. the kwireless tool I had thought I had installed wasn't, now I can use it just fine too.

So I am down to 3 little issues.

I have also figured out the Samba Issues I have been having are due to the SuSE firewall. For now I have disabled it, but I do not seem to be able to strem music or video like froma windows to windows computer.

I use Turtle Beach Santa Cruz under SUSE 10 and have done so since 7.0.

It does call it Crystal Clear Sound Fusion as that is the chipset used in this card.

I don't remember if it configured automatically. To configure it manually, start YAST2. Go to Hardware, then Sound. You can use edit to change the configuration.

I have noted Linux plays this card at a lower volume than Windows. You may just have to turn it up.

Is this something where I will have to axe my current sound card and install only 1 at a time?

I know in Windows in many cases you have to go to the length of disabling onboard in the bios just to get the other card to install properly. Is this a similiar scenario? Or just a time I have to configure it properly?

Also... is there a way to install more up to date versions? like ATI releases actual drivers for my video card, even in linuz, but I know Turtle Beach doesn't, I even sent in an e-mail request for that kind of thing, and they merely said there was 3rd party support. Or do I simply not need them?

EDIT: I have Samba working minus firewall(firewall in SuSE disabled) and no streaming.

My sound card will oddly enough play sound during the config in that sound test... but once I exit, no sound from there, while the obnoard works perfectly...

My wireless card is working perfectly...

Still woking on the keyboard/mouse issue.
