smart package manager log file location

Just a question on smart package manager, does it record and keep it's log file somewhere, I heard that they were looking into a new version adding info into syslog but it's not doing that yet. It would be good to have the log somewhere.

I have smart installed but have not actually used it.
Ther eis an entry in /var/lib/smart that has some info - maybe there is a log in there once used.
