Question SLED 10, ATI X1900 Crossfire won't run X-Server

Hi All!

Glad to see this awesome community on Linux. Decided to take the jump and try to learn more about Linux with an Install of SLED 10. The system is it bieng installed onto is a Shuttle P2 3700 featuring the C2D Intel Processor and running a X1950 Crossfire configuration on the Graphics Cards.

I can't get the Graphical menu to launch, Just command line, and get a badly distorted screen saying X-server cant run as I a logging it. Everything I do with this system has to be done from the command line. Tried running SAX2 and that doesn't bring up a console. Any thoughts? Would be most appreciated! If I get the drivers from ATI, how in the heck can I install them?

Andy

I'd suggest you try to install the ATI driver.
Maybe this link will help: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:ATI_Drive...ler_under_SUSE
First you should try to configure the built-in driver with 'sax2 -m 0=radeon'. Login as root and change the runlevel to 3 (type 'init 3'). To make sure that the chip# is correct, type 'sax2 -p', which gives a list of detected cards on your system. The ATI card should list as 0. If so, use 0=radeon, otherwise adjust accordingly.
