Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I just installed Skype on SuSE 9.3 from the rpm on the Skype website.
The problem is that when ever I try to chat to someone it fails and Skype tells me that there is a "Problem with Sound Device".
In the options menu it gives me four (4) options for the sound device to use:
I have tried all four (4) and cannot get the sound device to be not a problem. I am using an Asus motherboard with intergrated sound card if that makes any difference.
I don't know what elements of my setup are important for this type of problem so feel free to request certain pieces of information.
This is probably relevent: I can only get sound to work through kaffiene (for dvds and movies) and amarok (for music), which are both running the Xine engine. Xmms, and realplayer don't produce ANY sound, nothing comes out of the speakers even though they are playing.
Thanks in advance.
Just fixed the sound problem (of xmms and realplayer) by re-running alsaconf, and am about to check skype for issuse. Any pointers you still have would be great though.
