setting up Open SUSE Entrprise 10 on dual PIII

Hi everyone

I'm Nick. I'm not new to computing, but I am very 'green' when it comes to Linux, and it's been a quarter century since I last did any command line stuff.

I've just put SUSE enterprise 10 on my PIII (Abit VP6 motherboard), setting it up as a server for home use. I have a couple of problems which I would like to solve to proceed to the neext phase of my set-up.

The larger probelm is that the system does not seem to see the USB ports despite my loading the generic USB modules on installation. I'm wanting to install a USB wireless LAN to pick up broadband, but USB data sticks aren't recognised either.

The lesser problem is that my hard drive wasn't found on the RAID bus so I had to install it on the normal IDE bus. I now can't get it to boot on the RAID bus where I want it to be so that I can use the firmware RAID on the motherboard. I've tried altering the fstab options fro the drive, but when trying to boot on the RAID bus I get this error

"waiting for device /dev/disk/by-id/ata-disk-part2 to appear ........... not found"

It seems that altering the fstab options makes no difference to this command line.

Has anyone out there got the answer to these problems so that I can move on and (no doubt) find some more!?

Regards

Nick
