sending files with kopete

Hello, I am trying to send a file through kopete to a person who uses AOL instant messaging, I can send messages to him but for some reason the send file option is not available. I have other messaging accounts on kopete and I can send messages to MSN clients but not AOL what can I do?

Hello izquierdista, I recently have started back into Linux. I know before, I could never send files with kopete or gaim. I noticed they changed the file trans a bit for gaim, but I still have been unsuccessful with it. I was wondering myself if the other user has another OS if it will not work, or just windows/MAC. If anyone has any feedback on that also, please reply.

Does anyone know of any chat program that can successfully connect to send images and files with a windows user?

Cool try using gaim

Try using the other chat application called gaim. I haven't tried sending files with it but to me it looks more promising than kopete.

as you may know I am the one that posted the original question on this thread so I am experimenting with various alternatives. So far I have seen that the send file option is available for MSN and AOL instant messaging services using gaim.

for more info consult the following link: http://gaim.sourceforge.net/faq.php

this page will answer any of the questions that you might have about gaim.

I hope this helps, I will let you know if I find a better alternative because I too am trying to solve the same problem of sending files etc. through cross platform messaging

good luck!

Yes & No

Yah,

i used Kopete when i first started using linux.

It is what it is.

im on GAIM. version 0.82 or something.

i know its up to version 1.12 at least.

but my experience thus far:

i know that for some potocols, i can send files to my buddies.
but they cant send me any.

But it depends on which protocol im usinng, AOL, Yahoo, MSN
it varies.

Has anyone been succesfully able to Send & Recieve?

so for my work around. i send the files to my buddy with GAIM.
and if they want to send me something and they cant, i just let them ftp it back to me!!

Gotta Love Linux

I tried gaim and was unable to send files to a windows aim user. It doesn't look any of the chat programs have perfected the ability to yet.

I believe that I have had success sending files with kopete. If I remember rightly it was really slow though, but that could be on the other persons end though.
