Scanner Umax 2200 (USB,SCSI) with AHA2940U scsi card problem in Suse 9.2 Pro

Scanner Umax 2200 (USB,SCSI) with AHA2940U scsi card problem in Suse 9.2 Pro.

Connected Umax Astra 2200 (SU) (Scsi,Usb) scanner unit to Adaptec AHA 2940U card with scsi terminator on scanner. During booting the scanner is identified. Suse yast HW scanning sees the scanner. Suse pluhher (HW tool) also sees the scanner but shows two times!!).
Now Kooka is able to preview. Scan does not work and freezes.
Xsane precapture works. But Scan freezes.
After each freeze, I cancel kooka or xsane. After each cancel, if I bringup kooka or xsane, they are not able to see the scanner.

Removed the terminator. Same problems .

Any idea what is going wrong?

Are you running anything else on the 2940? Scanners are fairly notorious for monopolizing the SCSI adapter they're connected to. I had one that I was, at one time, using successfully on an NCR SCSI card. At least I was until I attached a tape drive to the bus. Then the SCSI adapter pretty much froze whenever I accessed either device and nothing but a reboot would clear the problem (demonstrating that there is a downside to compiling your SCSI support into the kernel). I wound up having to resurrect an old AHA1542 that I could dedicate to the the scanner.

Since you mentioned USB... Have you tried running the scanner via the USB? I found my Epson was detected automatically and ran first time I tried it.

I'm got a similar problem with my Astra 2200 (I don't know if it's an SU or not). I'm using a USB connection. The system detects the scanner, identifies it as Astra 2200, but finds no SANE that configures with it. If I specify a "generic" scanner and tell it to use the umax_pp SANE, it will preview in Kooka, but freezes on scan. The other SANE choices (umax and umax 1220) don't work at all. Btw, I'm running SuSe Linux 8.2.

i'm having different problems with the same scanner

i stumbled across this discussion looking for help with my Astra 2200 as well...

I'm running Mandrake 10.1 and it recognizes the scanner fine.

I can preview and I can scan...

but when I do I get this horrible banding... i spoke to a photo guy and he suspects software issues. any thoughts?
