Running Samba with oracle on opensuse?

Does anyone know if running oracle and samba together on opensuse 10.3 will cause any problems?

I recently installed oracle 10G on opensuse 10.3. It took some time and care but now oracle seems to be running better on Suse than it ever did on windows.

I plan on running samba on the same box. I assume it has to be configured and started up, although I have not studied it yet.

I know in windows installing new software or network config changes can drastically affect oracle's performance. Could I run into the same problem on my linux box if I run Samba there too?

I just read Samba is usually running already when you boot opensuse. So it just needs to be configured? It isn't bothering oracle now, oracle is running great.

You might want to consider whether you want to have the same host offering two services. From a security standpoint, it is easier to secure a server if it is dedicated and you uninstall everything that you can. You may still want to install ssh so that you can service the server remotely. The fewer programs and ports open, the smaller the attack surface there is for a cracker to attack, and the easier it is to monitor security updates needed.
