Reverting YOU kernel update (suse 10)

I installed suse 10, used YaST Online Update to update (among other things) the kernel. Now it seems that doing that caused more problems than it solved, so I either need to do a reinstall or replace the updated kernel with the original from the install. Compiling a whole new kernel is not an option.

Help appreciated.

If you re-install the kernel via YaST->Software->Install and Remove... the new kernel will be replaced by the original version. As far as I remember, the update module was separated from the software install module in 10.0. In 10.1 you may need to deactivate any online-update sources and keep only the original install media in your list.

Running online update, however will install the update again. You can try to avoid this by protecting the kernel package (click until the "Lock" symbol appears).
