question about root and users
Quick question, on my suse 10.1 machine when ever you plugin a flashdrive or external hdd through usb its owner and user are both 'root'. This makes the devices read-only for anyone else, which means when I'm on my regular account I can't use these devices. How can I fix this so everyone can write to a flashdrive or externall hdd.
Thanks my fellow suse users, nomb |
This is for 9.3, so I don't know if your problem has the same cause:

man I got so excited when I read this. Unfortunately when I tried chown on it even as root it says operation not permitted...
Oh well thanks a lot for the idea tho. Anyone else have any other ideas? nomb |
The manual says to do this procedure while the drive is mounted. Probably because the mountpoint is created on demand only. But if the mountpoint exists even with the device unmounted, try to repeat the instructions with the drive unplugged.
