Qt3

The last few days I have been rebuilding the source package qt3-3.3.4-3.src.rpm to get the following packages with their sizes:

qt3-3.3.4-3.athlon.rpm 16.3MB
qt3-devel-3.3.4-3.athlon.rpm 4.0MB
qt3-devel-doc-3.3.4-3.athlon.rpm 6.6MB

These sizes are particularly big in comparison to the i586 packages: 3.3, 1.5, and 5.7 respectively.

This is the rpmbuild line that I am using to build them:

rpmbuild -ba --define '_unpackaged_files_terminate_build 0' --target athlon --clean qt3.spec

Since I am using the spec that comes with the source package I am confused at to why are they so large?

Any ideas?

Perhaps I should just ask the original packer.

After looking at the changlog, I discovered the -release option listed under:
Quote:
Sun Jun 15 14:00:00 2003 - cooloAATTsuse.de:
- never strip explicitly
- always build with -release to avoid debug output even with -g
Is this the answer I have been waiting for? Stay tuned until I continue this dialog with myself. Perhaps this could answer the kbear post that was submitted a while ago?

OOOOooooo.... the excitement.

Alas... another failure... how disappointing. I do not know what to do to reduce these sizes?

Well to avoid too much frustration I am going to jam my hand into a blender to help take my mind off of it.

(Does no one out there know what to do to alter these sizes?)
