problem with dvd slideshow /SuSE9.3

I'm having problems with getting dvd-slideshow (http://dvd-slideshow.sourceforge.net to work with SuSE9.3.

This is what I get:
[dvd-slideshow] ############################################
[dvd-slideshow] Creating black background
[dvd-slideshow] Working on 0/9 title, 0:0:5.0
[dvd-slideshow] Making title slide:
[dvd-slideshow] Title1=ex
[dvd-slideshow] Title2=
**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] Could not read YUV4MPEG2 header: stream requires unsupported features!
[dvd-slideshow] ############################################

I'm using mjpegtools from Pacman, but also tried SuSEs official and compiled myself.
It seems that it's either ppmtoy4m or mpeg2enc that doesn't do their job properly. But since I'm not quiet sure of exactly what they are supposed to do, I'm kind of lost...

Any help or hints appreciated!

Hi rokka,

have the same problem on Debian 3.1.

I figured out the problem migth be with "ppmtoy4m":

adding a "-S 420mpeg2" to each line in "/usr/bin/dvd-slideshow" as argument where ppmtoy4m is called, the dvd-slideshow process finishes without any complains.

I'm not sure if this impacts the output of the final dvd as I've not yet burned it. The preview of the generated vob-File via "mplayer" looks ok to me, but I'm not 100% sure the images are scaled correctly (maxed to screen-size)....

Hope this helps your end, too

cu

Right you are! I added "-S 420mpeg2" to all calls for ppmtoy4m and burnt a dvd. It runs perfectly in my dvd player.

Thank you SO much!

Thanks for letting me know this item existed. I had been resorting to Nero on Windowz for this purpose. I installed it from Yast and was up and running within a few minutes.

I have 0.7.1 now and created my first DVD.

(Now I'm glad I bought that DVD R/W on the laptop.

Ugg, 9.1....

I'd get yerself off of that version ASAP.

SuSE 9.1 leads to frustration. Frustration leads to anger. Anger leads to the Dark Side. 9.3 - wait 10.0 - is available for download starting now.

Seriously, though, if you launch Yast and go to installing software, it should be in the list.

Otherwise, you'll have to compile it yourself. Though that sounds freakish for a newbie (I'm still one after almost two years.) it is really easy.

In either case, you'll need to first ensure that you have the folloiwng libraries/apps loaded and operational.

http://dvd-slideshow.sourceforge.net/download/

* dvdauthor 0.6.11 for creating the correct dvd video file structure
* mjpegtools for encoding mpeg2 video and audio
* ImageMagick 5.4.7 gives me errors with some menus. 5.5.4 or higher should be better. For image manipulation and menus
* urw-fonts >= 1.1-8 for nice fonts
* ffmpeg > 0.4.8 for AC3 audio
* [optional] lame for mp3 audio and oggdec for ogg audio.
* [optional] toolame For faster mpeg2 audio encoding. Works with version 0.2L and 0.2M.
* A recent version of mkisofs from cdrtools that has support for UDF filesystems
* dvdrecord from dvdrtools if you want to actually burn dvds.

If you have those, you should be okay. Most - if not all - of these can be gotten from yast as well. Be sure to add packman to your list of Yast sources (I think they still have a 9.1 repository.) Check my sig for the Yast Sources link.

The author is very cool and willing to help out. I had some issues with MP3 encoding so he sent me a new build with some MPEG4 encoding options.
