Unhappy Problem switching Desktop Enviroments

I have GNOME and FVM. I logged root into FVM and realized what FVM is. So I log out and select IceWM, but I am returned to FVM when I log in. Then I try GNOME, but once again, it takes me back to FVM. This doesn't affect my user account. I use GDM 2.24 in openSUSE 11.1. Would upgrading it to GDM 2.26 help?
