powersaved in SuSE 9.1
 

Hello,
After quite a bit of tweaking and research on LQ.org and other newsgroups, I am still not sure SuSE's new power-saving features are set up and working properly on my laptop. I have read all the info on this website regarding powersaved to no avail.

I recently upgraded from SuSE 9.0 to SuSE 9.1, upgrading just the system, it was a not a complete reinstall. I understand from the myriad of previous posts that cpufreqd and powersaved should not be running at the same time. Checking my runlevel editor in YaST, I see that cpufreqd, acpid and apmd are disabled, while powersaved is enabled. This spares me the message "you are not a member of the powersave group etc etc" message upon KDE startup.

However, I am still not sure powersaved is running properly. For instance, I just can't get the battery monitor icon to appear in my tray!

For a double check, I booted my laptop using the latest Knoppix 3.6, which diagnoses my processor as having 8 levels of throttling and there, power management seems to be running just fine.

If anyone has advice, an opinion or remarks on this, I'll be most happy to hear them. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am a long-time SuSE fan, but the more time goes, the more "little glitches" I see --- I had a bunch of trouble with my touchpad, video settings, sound settings, all solved using info found on LQ.org. This website is probably the most precious resource for daily Linux users.

I found this error message in the logs:

/opt/kde3/share/icons/slick group invalid

The owner and group of all icon directories is 'root'. Does anyone know what's wrong here?

Just saw your post and noticed that there were no solutions. I am having the same problem and read that there is a bug in kde and that there is a config script that enables the battery monitor for the kde daemon but I can't find the script on SuSE 9.2. I was wondering if you had found a solution to your post?

sorry I never found a solution to that problem. On a different laptop, I chose to install Debian, and all is working for the best. Good luck.

Kpowersave pop up problem SOLVED
