Playing WMV Files - What Do I Need ?

Vaguely literate, but a Linux newbie running SuSE 9.1 Pro :)

I know the SuSE dist is deliberately crippled for Windows Movie files, but haven't so far been able to figure out what I need to do to get them to work.

Using Kaffeine or any player based on Xine, I get:

Xine Error: No Demux PlugIn

Any help or pointers to the right direction to take would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Pete

You would need to get the win32 codecs. I'm using SuSE 9.3 and there is a Multimedia pack1-2-3-4 that you can download, which I believe the win32 codecs are in there. It's not supported by Novell due to legal reasons.

OK, thanks for the help.

I downloaded the MS 'essentials' codec pack and installed it where instructed, but it made no difference.

I'll have to some more hunting, I guess :)

Thanks again.

Many multimedia-related packages are available on http://packman.links2linux.org/ , including the win32 codecs for SUSE 9.1. To make the installation even easier, you can add the packman server to your YaST sources. Have a look at the sticky thread about YaST update sources.
