Playing DVD'S

I've tried with varying degrees of success to get dvd movies to play on my suse system.

It was with great delight that I found this link today which is a complete idiots guide to getting up and running. So this idiot has is watching Matrix Reloaded whilst typing this post on the same machine!!

It refers to Suse 9.3 but it worked fine with Suse 9.0 and once I'd enabled dma support its faultless.

May be of no use to you power users out there but anyone like me scratching their heads might like it.

http://www.saunalahti.fi/~pirisisi/tips/Linux/dvdplay/

Hope its of use.

A good how to; however, he uses the RedHat RPM of libdvdcss. I would suggest going to http://rpm.pbone.net/ and downloading the proper suse 9.x build of the library just in case.

In 9.3 all you need to do is get the w32codecs, libdvdcss, and download the Multimedia package #1 from YOU and your system will be able to play mp3, mov, wmv, avi, divx, dvd, and many more!

You trying to play in Firefox or Konqueror? Which app are you running? Xine, MPlayer, NoAtun?

Personally I use MPlayer for all DVD and video playback.
