php sessions problems
I received a donated P3 733x2 server to be used as the new web server for the high school that I work at. I downloaded and installed the latest SuSe9.3 version last night, and got everything up and running with no major problems except for one biggie:
It would appear that any time I try to access a php page that uses sessions, I receive the response:
An error occurred while loading //localhost/index.php:
Connection to host localhost is broken.
The reason I mention that it may be tied to sessions is that I was able to make it through the entire installation process for my PHPWebSite software, but when it came time to actually view the newly built site suddenly I began receiving the error and I have not been able to get around it. Normal html files and php pages that do not use sessions seem to execute just fine. I will admit, however, even with this evidence I am not sure if this is truly the cause of the problem.
I have updated my system using YaST to all of the most recent versions of all installed software including the php_sessions package. The error still persists. However, I see that php5 is available but I am only running php4. Might this be a solution (to upgrade to php5) or would that open potential problems for me? If I SHOULD upgrade to php5, how do I do it? Do I uninstall all of the php4 software first?
Thanks in advance,
