openSUSE10.2 no Python IDLE
Hi,
Having successfully installed GM openSUSE10.2 I notice that Python-IDLE is missing. It is normally part of the Python package and is a multi-platform Python programming tool, essential for what I want to do. How can I install Python-IDLE? In fairness to 10.2, I did experience the same problem with 10.1, where I used "SMART" to install Python-IDLE. Unfortunately, either SMART or some other smart update wrecked the 10.1 - not really surprising, though. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. OldAl in smoke-filled "bush capital", Canberra. |
Idle should be in the repositories because I installed it from there. The name of the package you need to look for is python-idle.

Hi, read this thread -> http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=509097.Although this is to enable multimedia, you have a way to configure installation sources and add Packman, so, it might have there the pack you need... I hope this can be helpfull.
Good Luck |
Thank you!
Thank you "radazz" - I had some hiccups attempting to use yast with the packman depository. Perhaps I should go back to the SMART and hope for the best.
Your article is great - I have been pointed to it by others, as you may have noticed. It would be worth while to just add two lines of guru depository installation. My lack of luck may well be due to our somewhat distant location - it could not be much further away on the surface of this planet :-) Thank you again, OldAl. |

I still can not understand why openSUSE did not include python-idle in their DVD :-( OldAl. |
Thank you all, particularly reddazz!
Following the procedures, outlined in reddazz's article on media activation in suse 10.1, which included detailed instructions how to install SMART, I've installed SMART in openSUSE10.2. It promptly solved my problems with python-idle, which SMART was able to install quick smart! (Pun intended).
This relieved a great deal of irritation that the lack of IDLE in the GM DVD of openSUSE10.2 was causing me. Suddenly, the new version seems quite useable... I hope that SMART project will flourish and grow - and thanks for all the support on this list. Great list, great bunch of people contributing here. Greetings from the smoke filled, but (touch wood) not yet burning drought stricken Canberra... |
