openSUSE 10.2 ATI Drivers

I decided to make this post because I read that lots of people have trouble installing the Drivers for ATI cards. This is what I did to make everything work just right:

-Open up YaST2 (the GUI IF)
-Go to Installation Source
-Add in the following:
Protocol: http
Server Name: www2.ati.com
Directory on Server: /suse/10.2
and hit OK then Finish, and let YaST2 do its thing.

-Then, go to Software Management, let it parse the files. Go to Search, and type in "ati-fglrx" and do a search.
-Look for the package called "ati-fglrxG01-kmp-default", it should be the third one down.
-Select and install that package
-Restart your computer
-Once you are booted up again, go to your terminal and launch SaX2 under root.
-Under monitor options, find the "Activate 3D Acceleration" button, click it and hit OK.
-After it does its thing, go to your terminal and type in "fglrxinfo" and it should look something like this:
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: [YOUR VIDEO CARD HERE] Generic
OpenGL version string: 2.0.6286 (8.33.6)

There should be no MESA drivers anywhere.

And there you go, much less of a headache than before.

If I get 10.2, I try it.

One day, we will just download and install, reboot and configure resolution and refresh rate without going into console mode. Hopefully.

Hi.... thanks for the help.. but
I have tried to install the drivers as you say but I get this:

display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R200 20060602 AGP 1x x86/MMX/SSE2 TCL
OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 6.5.1

I have an ASUS A9250 graphics adapter (256MB).
If you know what to do... please tell me.

I have also tried to use the last driver from ati, but it doesn't work.

thanks a lot

I think you need both of these...

* ati-fglrxG01-kmp-default
* x11-video-fglrxG01
