NVIDIA Geforce 2 GTS dirver kernel module won't load in Suse 10.0

I am trying to enable 3D acceleration on my suse 10 installation by using a driver from nvidia. I tried using YaST to update it but that didn't work (if anyone can help me with this part of it, please do. it would make things a lot easiler if i could just get YaST to do the work). Because I couldn't get YaST to update my driver, i downloaded it manually, installed it by shuttin down the x server and using the command

sh NVIDIA.whatever.7XXX-pkg1.run

the installation went well, so I edited my /etc/X11/Xorg.conf as the instructions on the nvidia site tell me to. I changed the line

Driver "nv" to Driver "nvidia"

and made sure the line

Load "glx" was in the Modules section.

I reboot and the x server wont start, so i try to load the nvidia module manually with

modprobe nvidia

but I get an error telling me to check dmesg. Dmesg says there is an error loading the nvidia kernel module, BUT WHY?

I have kernel 2.6.13 an i have the kernel-source, make and gcc packages installed. I have since uninstalled the nvidia driver and reverted back to the default driver, but i really want to get this to work. PLEASE HELP!

It would be helpful if you posted the full and complete error messages you are getting, not just a paraphrase. Did you comment up 'Load "dri"'?
The steps you outlined here are correct for getting the driver working, so I guess we will just need to see those error messages.

there were no Load "dri" or Load "GLCore" lines in the xorg.conf file. I think the problem is that for some reason my card is not compatible with my kernel or something. For one thing it is now classified as a legacy chipset, one of the error messages said that a command that was executed while trying to load the kernel module was non-Novell supported or something like that.

I am having the same problem with my GF2 ultra gts. I downloaded the earlyer legacy driver, but I couldn't get it to load up without errors. I'll be interested to see how this thread goes.
