Nscd...
In order for Thunderbird to run properly...(Mozilla Mail Client), the NSCD service has to be running. I have added NSCD to runlevels B(for boot), 3 and 5. However I am still having problems on a couple workstations where Thunderbird just does'nt respond when you double-click / press enter while selected. So I authenticate as root while entering Yast...and start the service. I get an error where a few modules failed to load..boot.clock etc. Does anyone know a quick solution to this problem, or has anyone ran across this problem before? Thanks guys, I appreciate the help and time in advance.

What linux are you using? opensuse 10.2 doesn't use nscd.

Currently our workstations are configd with SUSE 10.1. I am in the process of trying to get our workstations switched over to Debian ETCH, or Ubuntu 6.10-7.04. Either of them would suit me fine. I don't really like SUSE 10.1 because of random errors like these, and alsa makes me angry periodically. I haven't been able to reproduce these errors in any other distro than SUSE 10.1, and that would explain why I cannot on my SUSE 10.2 box. Once again I appreciate the info, and thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Maybe the problem is that you set nscd to start on boot (B). Set it to start on runlevels 3 (no X) and 5 (X). If you use the simple mode, you'll avoid many mistakes in the future. Also, I've heard that 10.1 had lots of problems with the package management. I upgraded from 10 straight to 10.2 because of that and so far I haven't got any serious issues.
